Everything we know about the 2024 Met Gala – ‘The Garden of Time’

I know you all might have somewhere to be on May 6 (like work) but just like this year's Met Gala theme, I'm going to need you to reawaken the sleeping inner Project Runway judge in you, because they have just announced this year's Met Gala dress code, and it's promising.

This year's exhibition theme is 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion', and before you start wondering if the guests will turn up as a sleeping beauty princess, we can only hope not. The idea of reawakening fashion is the referral to fashion that is so fragile the pieces can't be worn twice. Complementing the Met Gala's theme this year is the dress code 'The Garden of Time'. We're thinking emotionally poetic pieces that intertwine with sub themes of nature; land, sea, and sky, while embodying ethereal fragility and the notions of mortal decay. Needless to say, we feel very hopeful about this year's theme.

With all the announcements for this year's Met Gala, what's more fun than casting our predictions for what will go down on the night? From confirmed attendees to memorable fashion moments, here are our Met Gala 2024 predictions.

Who will be attending the 2024 Met Gala?

We're joining the dots and thinking about all the connections to this year's theme and Co-chairs that might indicate who will be attending. Zendaya returning back to the Met has everyone working up an appetite knowing she will serve us. We can only imagine her fairy godmother Law Roach will be attending, and hopefully her partner Tom Holland will too. Jennifer Lopez will most likely be attending with her husband Ben Affleck, while Bad Bunny might be attending this Met alone after rumours him and Kendall Jenner have split. And of course our fellow Australian, Chris Hemsworth, which was definitely a surprise co-chair. We can expect he will be bringing his wife Elsa Pataky, and perhaps his younger brother Liam Hemsworth along with his girlfriend, model Gabriella Brooks.

As for Johnathan Anderson, we can expect there will be quite a number of Loewe ambassadors attending this year. After Loewe ambassador Taylor Russell's appearance at last year's Loewe show, dressed in a metallic coat and custom black bodysuit, we saw a smile from Anna Wintour smile appear as she looked at Russell. A smile that spoke a thousand words, it was practically an instant invitation to the Met if we have ever seen one. The question that we will all be anticipating an answer for is whether her boyfriend Harry Styles will attend by her side? A long time friend to Anderson, it would be no surprised if he was invited to sit on Anderson's table.

Who we can confirm is attending, most likely with Loewe, is Challengers stars Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist.

After two years of Emma Chamberlain hosting the red carpet at the Met Gala, we can confirm that she will be returning as special correspondent to interview celebrities. Hosting the livestreams will be Wednesday actor Gwendoline Christie, TV Personality La La Anthony and Model Ashley Graham.

What creature will appear on the red carpet?

Each year there's a surprise appearance on the red carpet from a critter. Last year we had the cockroach, one year the security dog, and another a pigeon. With all these floral appearances this year, I'm saying a bee.

Who can we expect the attendees to be wearing?

The exhibition will have on display pieces from fashion houses, Christian Dior, Schiaparelli, and Givenchy. There will even be an AI projection of a Charles Frederick Worth Ball gown from 1877, too delicate to bring the actual dress on display. These pieces and theme give us an indication we can expect 17th century Elizabethan sumptuous crinolined gowns, similar to some of the shapes seen in the 'Heavenly Bodies' Met. We can only hope we get to see someone wear Maison Margiela's 2024 Couture collection on this red carpet, as fluffed collars and cinched corsets seems quite on theme.

Floral patterns as much as that would be a simple take on the theme, we will most definitely be expecting them. Think Yves Saint Laurent's 1999 collection of rose bridal gowns, Galliano's Christian Dior Couture season in 1998, and Vivienne Westwood Couture  curved silhouettes in the 90's.
