A ‘Mean Girls’ reunion is officially happening

mean girls reunion

Ahead of the film's 20th anniversary next year, it looks like the cast of Mean Girls are getting back together again for a reunion. Three out of four of The Plastics, specifically Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, were seen filming for an undisclosed commercial project earlier this week in LA.

Lohan was spotted wearing all-black (which is typical of her character Cady Heron, a socially inept highschool transfer from Africa), while both Seyfried and Chabert, known for their characters Karen Smith and Gretchen Weiners, respectively, were both dressed in line with the film's "on Wednesdays we wear pink" mantra. Lohan was also notably carrying a white clutch that read "Plastics Club Member", while Chabert was caught driving a silver convertible not unlike the car from the film's "get in loser, we're going shopping" scene.

Absent from the shoot was Rachel McAdams, who played Regina George, ring leader and pitch perfect archetype of the 2000s popular but cruel highschooler.

Naturally, the paparazzi shots have prompted many theories about what the project could be. Some suspect they could be filming an ad for the 2024 Super Bowl, while others have suggested Pepsi could be behind it, given that Lohan has worked with the company in the past.

Either way, it's clear there's an appetite for a Mean Girls reunion, whatever the form. Back in January 2020, Tina Fey, who both wrote the script for the 2004 film and starred as Ms. Norbury, announced she would be adapting the Broadway production of Mean Girls into a musical movie. So far, Christopher Briney from The Summer I Turned Pretty franchise, Reneé Rapp, Australian Angourie Rice, and Emily In Paris star Ashley Park have all signed on to the project.

And like clockwork, on October 3rd the internet was quick to alert everyone to one of the film's many quotable lines.

For now, we'll take comfort in the mystery of this project in the hope that we're in for a treat. Grool.
