Model and taekwondo athlete Lauren Stevenson on simple beauty and late nights

Lauren Stevenson

She is a model at IMG, competes internationally for taekwondo but she's still at school. Yet Lauren Stevenson is no stranger to the hustle and late nights. Between school, training, homework and modelling she likes to keep her beauty simple.

Here she shares what she’s learned by listening to her body. Knowing that balance is key. And the one product that will stay with her forever.

What is your morning beauty routine?

My morning beauty routine is pretty simple, I start with washing my face with water and cleansing with the Biore Charcoal Cleansing Wash and then following up with the Simple Light Moisturiser for sensitive skin. I apply the Tarte Maracuja C-Brighter Eye Treatment to my undereyes and it makes my face look more awake. I use Carmex lip balm to moisturise my lips as they tend to get really dry and I don’t often wear makeup. However, if I’m feeling it I’ll whip on the Benefit BADgal BANG! Mascara which adds volume to my lashes (it’s my go-to product, I love it!).

What is your night beauty routine?

My night routine is pretty much the same as my morning routine however, I apply Clearasil Pimple Cream to any pimples that I have and I’ll finish with the Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray

Describe what you do for a living? What does a typical day look like for you?

My typical day can get pretty busy, I’m still in school so I get caught up on exams and homework. However, I am also a taekwondo athlete and compete internationally. So with that comes a lot of intense training. I love working out and often after school I’ll go to the gym to relieve any stress and just get a chance to feel good. I am always in the best mood after working out and it brings me so much positive energy. I’ll generally get home from training around 10pm and then spend an hour doing my homework. So I sleep pretty late however I love the hustle so I can’t complain.

What is the supermarket/ drug store/ chemist beauty product(s) that you use and love?

I love all products from the brand Simple, my skin thrives off their products as they are not too harsh on my sensitive skin and they leave my skin feeling great and looking glowy and radiant. In particular the Simple Light Moisturiser works so well for my skin and it took me a while finding a moisturiser that was perfect for my skin and this is definitely the one!

What is your main form of beauty body maintenance? What products do you use on your body?

In terms of my body, I keep it pretty simple. The brand Palmolive is my favourite because it’s effective and smells amazing, especially the aroma therapy one which leaves me feeling so relaxed for the night. If I’m feeling like treating myself though, I’ll use a Frank Body Scrub all over my body which leaves my skin feeling so smooth and gets rid of all the dead skin. It’s a good way to end my day feeling clean and fresh.

How do you keep fit/ healthy? Does exercise form a large part of your routine?

I keep fit and healthy through dance and taekwondo. Both these sports keep me active and I get a good sweat out of them while having fun. I also go to the gym roughly three times a week and I push myself hard. Usually focusing on abs and cardio because they are what I need to work on the most.

What professional treatments or facials do you have as part of your beauty routine?

None, my skin has been fine so far so I have not needed any professional treatments. I just keep it simple.

What do you do when your body needs to recover?

When I’m feeling burnt out and drained, I take that as my body telling me I need to have a rest so I’ll treat myself either by a lazy day in bed or by doing a meditation. I find meditations that boost positive energy so fun and they leave me in the best mood.

You’re tired and rundown: what is your beauty hack?

Water, water water! When I’m feeling rundown I rely on water and it makes me feel fresher and rids the bad toxins from my body as well as boosts my energy and wakes me up. What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine? The one non-negotiable is definitely moisturiser. I never used to moisturise my face however, it only leaves my face too dry and in order for my skin to thrive it needs to be kept moisturised. The Simple Light Moisturiser works so well for keeping my skin moisturised but also avoiding it from getting too oily.

Do you have a beauty icon? Who are they and why?

Hailey Baldwin is my beauty icon, I’m obsessed with her skin because it’s so glowy and radiant, it’s literally perfect. Her skin routine is simple and effective which I love so much and strive for.

What is the best advice on beauty you’ve received?

The best advice I’ve received is not to use products that are trending and rather products that are more beneficial and get the job done. I used to use all the ‘popular’ products which only led to my skin breaking out. Drinking 2L of water everyday has also impacted my skin so much for the better and it has become a healthy habit I have adapted to.

What is the best advice on health you’ve received?

The best advice I’ve received health wise is to have a realistic diet that can be sustained. I used to try to change my diet to adapt to a healthy one. However, it never worked because I would not be able to commit to giving up chocolate and all the other good stuff. I’ve got a diet now that is healthy and nutritious however, balanced. By incorporating desert and sweets in small portions to keep me satisfied.

What is the one product you can’t live without?

The Benefit BADgal BANG! Mascara is by far the best beauty product I own and it works so well for my eyelashes. The volume and intensity of the mascara is perfect for my lashes and is not too try or clumpy, like I find in some other mascaras. I don’t think I’ll ever change the mascara I use after having this one.
