Our faces after hearing ‘Parasite’s’ producer is creating a movie about K-Pop

There's no denying that K-Pop is well and truly having it's moment worldwide. Thanks to bands like BLACKPINK and BTS there's a little K-Pop stan bopping about in all of us. With this in mind, it was only a matter of time before someone packaged the zeitgeist into a Hollywood film.

Introducing K-Pop: Lost in America a joyful new film currently in the works thanks to Parasitproducer Miky Lee. The feature-length film will be a fresh take on the classic road movie. A genre of filmmaking where characters find themselves on a long journey, usually a road trip, à la classics like Thelma & Louise, Rain Man and Almost Famous

Joining Lee on the production team is Lynda Obst, the force behind our beloved Sleepless in Seattle and Interstellar. She's described the film as a "passion project" and plans to approach it as an outlet to express adoration for all things Korean. As for the director, all eyes are on JK Youn, the unstoppable force that brought films like Ode to my Father and Haeundae to life. Over ten million people watched those titles in Korean theatres, a reference point that should give you some idea of how big K-Pop: Lost in America is set to be.

Who will feature in the film?

K-Pop: Lost in America provides the unique opportunity to merge the worlds of both K-Pop and American pop culture. So it's safe to say it will be a star studded event. Casting is currently underway in Seoul with plans to be completed at the end of August. According to director JK Youn they "plan to cast K-pop stars in addition to icons in the pop industry to appeal to a global audience". I'm sure there'll be more than a few familiar faces greeting us on screen.

What is K-Pop: Lost in America about?

It's all in the name really. A K-Pop boy band is stranded in Texas, two days out from their debut in New York City. We watch on as they make their way to the east coast just in time to catch their big break. As always money and time constraints make for a rocky journey and a rollicking good watch.

When can we watch it?

As production is yet to start the release date is still quite a while away. We expect it to arrive on our screens sometime in 2023. Allowing us enough time to do the mandatory obsessing and pining a film like this requires.
