How Jill Kortleve is influencing our wardrobes

jill kortleve

If the 90s are known for the Supers, the second decade of this century will be marked by names like Devyn Garcia, Paloma Elsesser, Alva Claire, Precious Lee and Jill Kortleve. Together, they've created new references for fashion, adamant on filling in the gaps of what they saw, or didn't see, growing up. Today, our focus is on Jill Kortleve, the Dutch Surinamese model that has become a fixture of the European runways, particularly at Virginie Viard's Chanel.

Kortleve, with her soft pout, signature bob and abundant brows, has held the hearts of the RUSSH team since her debut on the Alexander McQueen SS19 runway. Born in Heerlen, in the southeast of the Netherlands, Kortleve now lives in Manhattan for work. She's walked for Coperni and Fendi – along with Elsesser, Kortleve was the first curve model to walk for the Italian House – Nensi Dojaka and Jacquemus, Valentino and Max Mara, and more.

Always golden and covered in a medley of tattoos, there's something earthy and untouched about her look, as if Kortleve is perpetually in that soft state before the sun rises. Although, as a Scorpio, don't be fooled, she can switch into siren mode real quick. One flick through her Instagram grid reveals a model whose affinity for fashion continues off the runway and away from the camera. An active lifestyle, never far from the mountains or the water, means the model marries gorpcore with a vintage sensibility, dancing between mid skirts and muscle singlets, ASICS and ballet flats.

She's a muse for our times, a model for the history books, below we round up some of the best style moments from Jill Kortleve.
