Jaipur, India

The Pink City: home to vibrant, colourful architecture, chaotic streets and dotted with remnants of Jaipur’s majestic past, all intermingling in a sensory immersion unlike any other. RUSSH fashion editor Bridie Gilbert discovers where to stay, eat and shop to take in the jewels of the Rajasthan capital.

See …
The splendour of the Jaipur bazaars, the Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell, the palatial Jaigarh FortAmber Palace - renowned for it's pale yellow and pink sandstone exterior - and the magical, medieval Samode Village, nestled in the Aravali hills.

Stay …
47 Jobner Bagh: this beautiful guesthouse is an oasis away from the hustle of Jaipur which is more than welcome after a day spent exploring the city. Owned and managed by a lovely couple, you will appreciate the attention to detail, the small guesthouse store and the restaurant with changing seasonal menu.
Samode Palace: for something more peaceful, move on to the outskirts where this beautiful palace lies in the hills. Luxurious and ornate, I loved the quiet sunsets by the rooftop pool. Keep an eye on the monkeys who aren’t afraid to join in with you!

Take …
Light but covered clothing, it’s important to remember to be respectful being in a religious country and balance that with the warm climate. That being said, have fun with what what you wear – you are in the country where colour and print was born. Headscarves, hats, embellished sandals and layered accessories are more than appropriate.

Taste …

Try the traditional Thali plate at Samode Haveli or organise a private dinner on the outdoor rooftop at Jobner Bagh for something special – the chef will create a completely organic (and vegetarian on request) menu that won’t disappoint.

Shop …
The Jaipur bazaars, Jobner Bagh gift shop, and make sure to visit the local artisans in Samode Village – explore to uncover all the hiding jewellery makers and local sellers and be prepared to barter.
