Rejoice! Auli’i Cravalho and Rowan Blanchard will star in Hulu’s forthcoming queer coming-of-age film

For those of us in desperate need of some honeyed, butterfly-inducing romance, you need not wait too long. Late last week Auli’i Cravalho, the breakout star who voiced Moana in the 2016 Disney film of the same name, and our forever crush, Rowan Blanchard, signed on for the lead roles in Hulu's latest film. Currently, the film is untitled but it will follow the budding high school romance between Blanchard and Cravalho's characters, Paige and AJ. Who doesn't love a queer romance?

Behind the film stands a powerful lineup of collaborators. Sammi Cohen will be making her feature-film directorial debut, previously working on the TV series Hollywood Darlings. As far as production is concerned, Maya Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew and New York native, Natasha Lyonne will be representing Animal Studio's. They will be joined by producers from Depth of Field and LD Entertainment. Kirsten King and Casey Rackham are responsible for the script.

What will the film be about?

From what we know so far, the film will shadow Paige, played by Blanchard, an aspiring artist who is forced to join the school track team. Completely out of her depth on the team, Paige uses the opportunity to get close to her long-time crush, the captain. But throughout the film she finds herself gravitating towards another team mate. AJ, played by Cravalho, is an elusive track star who is always overshadowed by her twin sister. Perfect for those of us who feast religiously on coming-of-age stories.

When will it be released?

So far we haven't heard anything about a release date. Since the film is still in pre-production we don't expect we will for a while yet. But if you're looking for TV series to sink your eyes into and feel all warm and fuzzy over, why not give any of these feel good TV shows a go.
