Luke Newton is trading in his regency-era waistcoat for something far more avant-garde.
Best known for his breakout role as Colin in Netflix’s Bridgerton, the actor is gearing up to portray iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen in House of McQueen, a daring new Off-Broadway production a decade in the making.
For Newton, the role marks a striking shift. Though he’s garnered global fame for his role in the romantic period drama, the actor’s theatre roots run deep, with past stage credits in The Book of Mormon and Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things.
“It is our absolute pleasure to announce Luke’s involvement with House of McQueen,” said executive producer Rick Lazes. “We can’t think of anyone better suited to bring Lee’s story to life than this incredibly impressive multi-hyphenate.”

What's it about?
Written by acclaimed playwright Darrah Cloud and directed by Sam Helfrich, the 90-minute seated performance of House of McQueen is set to dive into the extraordinary, often harrowing journey of the late designer – from his working-class roots in East London to the stratospheric rise of his fashion empire, and ultimately, his tragic death in 2010.
The production promises an immersive visual experience, using towering LED panels to conjure the worlds – both real and imagined – that McQueen inhabited. The show will also delve into his intimate relationships, including with mentor Isabella Blow and members of his family, painting a layered portrait of genius, vulnerability, and relentless ambition.
Who else is involved?
So far, there's only one other cast member confirmed: Broadway star Emily Skinner, who's signed on to play McQueen's mother.
When and where will it play?
House of McQueen will start its previews next month, with the grand opening set to be held on 9 September 2025 at The Mansion at Hudson Yards (a theatre financed and designed by Alexander McQueen LLC).
The production has a one-year lease with the venue, with the aim that the play will be extended to run for that length of time, before hopefully moving on to London.
