Heron Preston is collaborating with Calvin Klein for an exclusive capsule

A partnership that feels only natural. The Heron Preston treatment will be applied to an exclusive capsule of Calvin Klein essentials, which will take form in a number of streetwear-inspired wardrobe staples, launching later this month.

This is not Preston's first rodeo with the brand, either. The designer has been serving as a creative consultant for  Calvin Klein for a little over a year now, making a point to take the brand’s most iconic pieces, notably denim and underwear, and reiterating them through his own lens with a fluid collection constructed from sustainable materials.

“I position Heron Preston as elevated workwear, and by default, I have an audience of construction workers and real workers that follow my work,” Preston told WWD. “I kind of consider them my athletes. And I listen to my athletes like Nike would listen to its athletes.”

“We have this idea of working with different visionary and creative people to help tell a Calvin Klein story through the lens of their perspective on, or experience with the brand,” said Jacob Jordan, Calvin Klein’s Global Chief Merchant and Head of Product Strategy & New Product Ventures. “I see this project as a first step; it’s a reawakening for the brand, moving us closer in our connection to culture and creativity. It is about forming interconnected partnerships who can help us tell our story in a way that maybe we couldn’t on our own.”

Preston, who has worked with streetwear heavyweights like Virgil Abloh and Kanye West, debuted his eponymous label at Paris Fashion Week in 2017 as an exciting new addition to the luxury streetwear offering. For his most recent season, Preston had to design during quarantine and present his collection virtually rather than on the runways in Paris as he has previously done, which he told WWD allowed him to explore new territory in his practice. “This year is about less-is-more in my approach. We were looking at creating icons and not necessarily introducing so much newness.” A sentiment that feels right up Calvin Klein's ally.

The Calvin Klein x Heron Preston collection will be available on April 23.
