Florence Pugh breezed in and out of Venice Film Festival as our sartorial queen

One ticket to the circus, please! Don't Worry Darling has officially been crowned the messiest film of the year. Between alleged feuds, questionable interviews, leaked texts and #spitgate, we are simultaneously sick of the drama and living for the absurdity of it all. But there is one person rising above the chaos, and it's Florence Pugh.

During her limited press for the tour, Florence Pugh had a single pit stop she was required to make and it was at Venice Film Festival – which we're now referring to as ground zero for the mayhem. It appears the actress has taken a leaf of Princess Diana's books, because how do you tell the world that you're unscathed and unbothered by the rumours? Revenge dressing, of course.

From the moment Pugh dismounted her boat and stepped onto the island in those link-motif purple Valentino sandals, we knew she meant business. Her head-to-toe violet ensemble plucked directly from Valentino's resort 2023 collection, comprised of a cotton bralette, drawstring shorts and oversized overshirt. Overall, it was giving Italian nonchalance. In the words of Michelle Obama, "when they go low, we go high".

For her anticipated arrival on the red carpet for the premiere of Don't Worry Darling, Pugh opted for an extravagant shimmering gown from Valentino Fall 2022 Couture collection. There were voluminous sleeves, sheer corsetry, a glittering train and hot pants to balance out the exaggerated dimensions. The actress paired the gown with a Tiffany & Co. jewelry and black Valentino heels with bows on the ankles that spouted long feathers in a look that was styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray.

To get the message through that she was doing Venice Film Festival on her own terms, Florence Pugh delivered us a wholesome moment on the red carpet when she invited her grandmother "Granzo Pat" to share the spotlight with her. The two danced and twirled in front of paparazzi together, Granzo Pat looking radiant in a chic all-white outfit. Which in our books, is a graceful way to cut through the toxic atmosphere brewing around the film. Now when does Granzo Pat get her leading lady moment?
