The year is closing out with a bang as more than 3000 guests poured into Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday in celebration of the 2023 Fashion Awards. Hosted annually by the British Fashion Council, the event is known as one of the biggest nights in fashion. The guest list reads like a who's who of the industry, comprising of names like Taylor Russell, Alexa Chung, Anok Yai, Grace Wales Bonner, Adut Akech, Kristen McMenamy, along with actors and musicians such as Charli XCX, Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway.
For the 2023 Fashion Awards, Maya Jama and Kojey Radical were tapped to host, while stylist Law Roach took over the red carpet coverage.
One of the first figures recognised this year was, unsurprisingly, British designer Sarah Burton, who departed Alexander McQueen in September after 13 years at the label's helm. Burton was honoured with a special recognition award. Meanwhile, Jonathan Anderson took home designer of the year in recognition for his collections under his own eponymous label and as creative director at Loewe.
Paloma Elsesser made history when she scooped up the award for model of the year, making her the first curve model to receive the title. Elsewhere, Michaela Coel was recognised with the Pandora leader of change award, presented by Pamela Anderson. British womenswear designer of the year went to Maximilian Davis for his work at Ferragamo, while Martine Rose was awarded British menswear designer of the year.
The Fashion Awards also paid mention to emerging talent on the scene, with Chopova Lowena receiving the accolade for new establishment womenswear award, and Bianca Saunders acknowledged with the new establishment in menswear award.
