Beyoncé isn’t the only one going country – Ari Aster’s next film ‘Eddington’ will be set in the wild west

It's as if, for his next film, Ari Aster chose his cast by dragging a finger down the list of recent Oscar and Golden Globe nominees. Oh and yes – A24's king of horror is scheming up another nightmare-inducing film (probably), dubbed Eddington, with the independent production studio. Here are all the details we have so far.

What is the plot of Eddington?

Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey and Louis Vuitton aren't the only ones with country on their mind. Aster, whose previous work includes Midsommar, Hereditary and Beau is Afraid, has described his latest project Eddington as a contemporary Western with film noir and black comedy elements.

Though, as far as an official plot goes, few other details have been released except that Eddington will follow "a small-town New Mexico sheriff with higher aspirations".

Who's involved?

As mentioned, it's a stacked cast that reads like a who's who of Hollywood. So far, Aster has managed to lock in Joaquin Phoenix – who lead Beau Is Afraid – to headline the ensemble cast. Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes of Yellowstone fame, Micheal Ward and Deirdre O’Connell have also signed onto the project.

Meanwhile, Aster is set to direct, write and produce the film with the help of his collaborator Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner. A24 is set to produce the film, while Darius Khondji the Academy Award-winning cinematographer behind Uncut Gems and Stealing Beauty is also aboard the project.

Is there a release date?

Not yet unfortunately. It's too soon to say when Eddington will premiere, and whether that will be in theatres or on streamers. What we do know is that production for the film begins this week. The Oscars are barely cold in the grave, and yet... the show must go on! No one can say Emma Stone doesn't work hard.
