Dior savoir-faire: Behind the scenes of its iconic house scarves

As it goes in luxury, the most interesting part of a runway show is getting to go behind the scenes. With any accessory, it's witnessing the magic in how it's made. The House of Dior has become infamously known for its elaborate and intimate savoir-faire making-of stories and this time - Dior opens its atelier doors to invite us into an exclusive look, from sketch to finish, behind the making of the House's iconic silk scarves.

In the Houses new savoir-faire video titled, Toile De Jouy Silk Scarf Savoir-Faire, we move through a poetic journey behind the doors of Dior and its atelier, witnessing mastery and craftsmanship in the making of the house's  silks that shine through Dior's Autumn Winter 2021-2022 ready-to-wear collection.

We see the signature House codes reimagined through the technique of pen engraving, as the work of Italian artist Pietro Ruffo is finely sketched onto fabric by the artist himself as an essential step before the scarves move onto the atelier's silk screening process.

In tribute to true Dior craftsmanship, the savoir-faire making-of video carries us through the hand processes of silk bathing and hand cutting through to being finely hand rolled and seamed to its completion. We witness the intricate process of each silk square being steamed, frayed and hemmed by hand, another savoir-faire to brilliantly demonstrate the decades of excellence, attention and ingenuity that continues to be deeply considered by the Maison of Christian Dior.

Dior also explores the many ways in which its emblematic house scarves can be worn and expressed, from headwear to handbag accessories and flags in its look book imagery. The Christian Dior Autumn Winter 2021-2022 silk scarves are now available for view on dior.com, and more of the Maison's remarkable and intricate savoir-faire stories are available to explore on RUSSH.
