Kim Jones returns to the motherland for the Dior Men’s Fall 2022 show

On December 9 London time, Dior unveiled its Fall 2022 men's collection show designed by artistic director of Dior Menswear Kim Jones.

This year's show marked the latest chapter in the House's historic friendship with the United Kingdom; reaffirming the steadfast ties that were sealed during the first ever Dior show across the Channel, held in 1947 in the presence of the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

For Fall 2022, Jones returned to the motherland, having the opportunity to debut his latest collection in the city closest to his heart. “I can’t wait to do a show in my hometown," he shared earlier in the week, and after having witnessed the magic which unfurled, we can now see why.

The Dior Men's Fall 2022 show began in true House fashion, as an almost never-ending 36-metre-long scroll laid the path down the runway. The literature of choice for Jones and the inspiration between the collection? An epochal figure, the author Jack Kerouac; a man, who shifted writing as seismically as Christian Dior shifted fashion. For the show, models walked down the runway as the words from Kerouac's second novel, On The Road, published in 1957 – the same year Christian Dior passed away – were sprawled across the floor.

Reminiscent of a road or path forward, the energy of Kerouac's groundbreaking beat generation masterpiece laid the groundwork for a collection that merges atelier and the freedom of the road. Jones has channelled Monsieur Dior's fervent love for travel throughout Fall 2022, in particular, his close relationship to America – a new world where post-war Dior thrived.

Fusing the finesse of a Parisian couture Maison with the modern, casual ease of American sportswear, the new collection from Jones is a marriage of heritage and technology of the future. Leaning into the forward-thinking ethos that characterised mid-century America, the pieces in the Dior Men's Fall 2022 show comprised of technical silks and recycled nylon; combined with embroideries and a gentle palette of pastels. A colour-wheel which of course included the Houses signature Dior grey, drawn from the archives.

In the way of accessories, this sentiment of voyage is injected throughout, brought to life through climbing cordons strung across the silhouette of the saddle bag, and a variation of the Dior Oblique in adventure-conducive shades of khaki and indigo. Underfoot, classic derbies, rope walking sandals and a new Dior Hiking Boot take centre stage; engineered both for the road and the sartorial desires of everyday escapades.

A celebration of ceaseless imagination and a hymn to counterculture and its inexhaustible wealth of creativity, the Dior Men's Fall 2022 show was a reminder of where the road less travelled can take us. You can watch the full show below.
