Why dark cherry red is fashion’s favourite colour of 2025

Dark, sweet, and maybe just a little tart, cherry is the colour dominating trends in 2025. The red hue has been rising through the ranks, from the runways of Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci – where the hue has been dubbed ‘Ancora’ – to the likes of CHANEL, Rick Owens, Ferragamo and Burberry, where the luxe shade has seeped into several recent collections.

It’s a deeper, richer, and arguably more sensual hue than the fiery red shade that had us in its grips in 2024. And according to Pinterest, the cherry takeover is only just getting started, with 2025 set to see a whole lot more of the rich red shade on our mood boards. So how can you incorporate the colour du jour into your life? Get ahead of the curve, with the cherry red pieces we’re coveting for 2025, below.

On the runway ...

There were echoes of cherry red in the mob wife trend that swept our wardrobes earlier this year. Much like the powerful women who birthed this movement — Carmela Soprano, Elvira Hancock, Ginger McKenna — the colour commands attention; with spades of glamour to boot.

In beauty ...

Over in the beauty sphere, there's a similar story to be told, where everything from blush to nail polish has received a deep red makeover. The uptick in beauty products that glisten with the scent of this summer fruit, or shine sensually like the skin of a plump cherry should come as no surprise – we've seen the food-ification of makeup gain serious traction this year, from glazed donut nails to chocolate brownie lip liner. The hue has even infiltrated how we style our hair, with everyone from Dua Lipa to Megan Fox trying out the 'cherry cola' trend for size. Some TikTokers have even taken things one step further, using the juice of an actual cherry to stain their complexion – a kind of natural lip and cheek tint, if you will.

In food ...

And it's not just fashion and beauty that have been influenced. Cherries are fast-replacing olives as the go-to garnish for a classic martini, while piles of glacé cherries are becoming a top choice for cheese boards and tablescapes alike.
