Christophe Robin on working with the greats

From his eponymous hair care range to his reputation as the go-to colourist for stars and models alike – Christophe Robin has built a career we all look up to.

My breakthrough career moment was …
When I arrived in Paris, I was only working for fashion and it was such a great time to work for Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano … I really enjoyed colouring Kristen McMenamy, my favourite model ever. Then the actresses started to come – I was thrilled when Catherine Deneuve called me, 20 years ago, to take care of her hair. Today, I’m still taking care of the most iconic blond French actress. At the time of the top models I started creating formulations to take care of their over-processed hair. My lavender oil and my cleansing cream with lemon haven’t change since that time.

The top 5 most useful products on set are …
My moisturising hair oil with lavender allied to my cleansing mask with lemon, they were the first products launched from my range. Then my cleansing purifying scrub with sea salt, and my regenerating mask with rare prickly oil, in addition to my shade variation care. All these products will keep your hair healthy and your colour intact.

The product(s) most worth the investment are …
A good hairbrush made of natural boar-bristle such as my detangling hairbrush will stimulate blood circulation, which generates hair growth, oxygenates the scalp and eliminates impurities.

My biggest beauty trick / tips is …
I recommend once a week the use of lavender oil – our ultra-nourishing and protecting treatment for all hair types – then the cleansing purifying scrub, a soothing moisturising paste for sensitive or oily scalp, followed by the regenerating mask with prickly pear seed oil, a deep restorative and protective care.

My favourite career memory / highlight is …
When I opened my salon and my own boutique rue Bachaumont. This two-place-in-one address is the thing I am the most proud of, I have designed both to be in my image and make it feel like a welcoming and warm place for my clients.

My advice to people getting started in the industry is …
The best advice I could give to someone is to never privilege a technical challenge to a beautiful hair quality. My motto is: never try to be trendy and avoid becoming not trendy!
