If there's one pop princess of fashion that rises above the rest – someone who pioneered and defined the genre both sonically and sartorially – it's the style moments provided by one Miss Britney Jean Spears.

From her adolescent days in the 90s a Mickey Mouseketeer, alongside the likes of a baby-faced crew of Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and Christina Aguilera, to her rise to pop notoriety in her late teens and early twenties, Spears has always been, in a word, iconic.

Over the years, she’s transformed her image from the girl-next-door to one of Hollywood's most fashionable red-carpet guests. Her southern belle charm is evident in her early fashion days – often opting for crop tops, classic low-rise jeans, a double-denim moment and cowboy accessories in her street style. On stage, she's had countless costume hits – who could forget her ...Baby One More Time school girl outfit, complete with pink pom-pom adorned pigtails? Or her Oops! ...I Did It Again red latex jumpsuit? Maybe her 2001 VMAs performance outfit featuring a 5-foot albino python was your favourite? Or perhaps her many personas in the Toxic video remain front of mind?

She's a big fan of pink, faux fur embellished coats and silky, slinky dresses – but the through line of her style seems to lie in her fearlessness. Spears dares to wear what she wants, no matter the media backlash that might come with it. Her style evolution over the last three decades has been nothing if not authentic; a representation of exactly where she is at in that moment.

While she's had a tough few years battling her conservatorship, and the intense public scrutiny that has followed her since her childhood, we're ready to see Spears back on top – where she belongs. As we mark the release of her brand new autobiography The Woman In Me on Tuesday– which is touted as Spears "telling her own story, on her own terms, at last" – we wanted to delve into the archives of the early 2000s to spotlight some of our favourite fashionable moments from the era's leading lady.
