We could all do with a little mental feng shui sometimes, and what better way than interior design? In the past few years with the wave of home renovation socials taking hold, there is no better excuse than to make some time for your favourite escapist past time. With so much on offer across a multitude of platforms, it can become a little overwhelming to know where to put your precious downtime. We've rounded up a list of our 10 best interior design shows and where you can get your Kon-Mari skills down pat.

 

1. Motel Makeover

Following the story of best friends April Brown & Sarah Sklash the show follows the duo as they work to flip a rundown motel into a plush Instagram retreat. Along the way they stumble into many hiccups including the wrath of Covid-19 which halts their plans, causing them to think of creative ways to turn things around.

2. Love It or List It

The type of binge-able Saturday viewing you can watch for hours on end. Love it or List it follows designer Hilary Farr renovating a home, while David Visentin takes the owners around to look at other properties. The owners must decide if Hilary has done enough to make them stick around or if they'd rather sell.

3. Grand Designs

A mainstay of design viewing, though its been around since the 90's this one is still a firm favourite. This classic British program presents middle-class homeowners an opportunity to level up from their former run down homes into more opulent designs. The show goes from ideation to creation, highlighting all the drama in between.

4. Tiny House Nation

The most avant gard and sustainable display of design viewing. Tiny House Nation host, John Weisbarth  and expert home analyst assist homeowners in downsizing, helping them to rethink their relationship to space and possessions in the process. Quality viewing for those highly eco-conscious among us.

5. Property Brothers

The most charming dudes in interior land. They must be seeing as one of them is dating our twee style queen Zooey Deschanel. Brothers Drew and Johnathan Scott, a contractor and real estate expert, join together to help families find the perfect home, and then transform them into their dream homes.

6. Good Bones

Karen & Mina are a formidable mother and daughter duo who flip houses in their local Indianapolis, after opening a home rehab centre in 2008. Each episode highlights a member of their team, with the two often incorporating eco-friendly spaces and local artisans.

7. The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals

Over the course of sixteen episodes this show takes you around the world, where the team visit spectacular, expansive homes, that are available over short term lease. Including the uber contemporary Invisible House in Joshua Tree California.

8. Luxe Listings Sydney

One for us locals, this goes into all the most obscenely expensive listings on Sydney's foreshores. In case we forgot how we can't afford to live here. Utterly indulgent and sensationalist viewing.

9. Million Dollar Beach House

The Hamptons version of Selling Sunset. If you love to give yourself over to pure drama and high stakes this is for you. Each episode shows the daily chaos in the lives of the agents at Nest Seekers International. Showing off some seriously luscious homes in between. Worthy, high class viewing.

10. Selling Sunset

The pinnacle of interior reality show dramas there is plenty here to keep you hooked. The show follows the Oppenheim Group in Los Angeles. Where gorgeous multi-million dollar Hollywood Hills homes are viewed on the reg. The agent smack talking can get a lot but it's worth it for the fine interior craftsmanship.
