I have always maintained that the best beauty looks come from Paris Haute Couture Week. The entire premise of couture is craftsmanship and slow fashion; hand-made pieces that are essentially wearable works of art. I find beauty often follows a similar suit. It's not always conducive to real life, but it's inspiring and beautiful to look at (plus, we can dream). This season is shaping up to be a special one with black lips at Schiaparelli — and Balenciaga — plus an eye look at Armani that immediately made me think of Josephine Baker. It's a testament to the artists that work behind the scenes to shape a designer's world.
The best couture beauty straight from my saved folder, below.
Schiaparelli
Pat McGrath never makes mistakes, and I love the way she always shows up with something unexpected (never forget the glass skin at Margiela). At Schiaparelli, she showed a shiny black lip created with liquid eyeliner, no less. I love the way it looks, especially against clean skin and slick hair.

Giorgio Armani
At Giorgio Armani Privé, the makeup look was straight out of a Parisienne cabaret in the 20s. I love the skinny brow, and the illusion created by the negative liner.

CHANEL
On the other end of the spectrum we have CHANEL couture. The look was almost nude, just glossy skin and a hydrated lip. I love the subtle shading around the eyes, and the sleekness of the hair. Despite the tweed-heavy, oversized collection, the beauty look is fresh and sporty.

Balenciaga
Blink and you'll miss the black lip at Balenciaga. The runway was more or less an exercise in individuality, but I was immediately drawn to this singlular dark lip. It's less shiny than Schiaparelli, but in this setting looks so right. It's just enough drama.
