Postcards from Seminyak: Olivia Bond’s guide to Bali

Undeniably, Bali is one of the most idyllic places in the world. It also happens to be one of the most popular, welcoming hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. It's desirability has allowed this Indonesian island to grow into one of the most diverse and dynamic places in the world. A destination where ancient culture and tradition inform habit, and true rest and relaxation are easy to find – as long as you know where to look.

Olivia Bond, founder of her eponymous jewellery brand, recently took a trip to visit some of her favourite Balinese haunts. A mix of modern beach club vibes and traditional wellness experiences, Bond loves to sample a mix of it all on her sojourns to this beatific island. Below, find her guide of what to do, where to eat and where to stay.

Where to stay

The Legian Seminyak Bali is where I stay – and its where I tell all my friends to stay. It's an authentically Balinese hotel which opened in the mid 90s, an era you can feel throughout, but in the best way. It has an infinity pool overlooking the beach and copious sun lounges and day beds. Some of them can be in the garden tucked away or right in the middle of the pool and bar area. The rooms are incredibly spacious and the buffet breakfast is wonderful. As it's located in Seminyak, you can walk to many of the best restaurants and bars in the area. My other two favourites are Alila Uluwatu for the incredible ocean view and The Warung which has the most delightful Indonesian food.

The Como Canggu is another great hotel option if you prefer to look for something in the trendy Canggu area. Its a perfect beach front resort with heaps of activities.

Where to eat

Bambu

This is a high-end restaurant specialising in Balinese cuisine. The food so beautifully aromatic. Don’t miss the rice crackers and chilli dipping sauces to start, or with a cocktail of course. In Balinese tradition, the restaurant is al fresco underneath bamboo wooden structures. The restaurant is also surrounded by water features, it's a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere.

Mexicola

At the other end of the spectrum is Mexicola. It's fun and fast, great vibes with delicious margaritas and incredible food.

La Luciola

Located in an indoor-outdoor space on Seminyak beach, this one is great for lunch.

Yuki Uluwatu

For the best wagyu sando.

What to do

Bali is all about rest, relaxation and good vibes, so you can't go past Mrs Sippy.

Sundays Beach Club in Uluwatu is also beautiful. It's located at the bottom of a beach side cliff, access is via an inclinator. The food and drinks are excellent and there are even organised activities such as bonfires, water sports and outdoor movies. It's great to go with friends (and the kids).

If you're looking to unwind, you must go to Bodyworks. It's pretty much my favourite place in Bali. It's so beautiful – you instantly feel calm. The serene interiors envelop you as soon as your enter. Don’t miss the smoothies and I love the house-made kimonos they sell at the gift shop as souvenirs.
