Model Ange Yu on her favourite podcasts and natural beauty

Sydney-based Ange Yu spends her days working in digital advertising, but art making and modelling keep her just as busy. She’s the kind of girl who knows long walks plus a podcast is sometimes the best down time, and that cooking dinner with loved ones is the perfect kind of therapy.

We pressed her for her best in beauty, and she shared the advice from her mother (it just can’t be beaten) and her forever crush on Zoë Kravitz.

Take us through your morning beauty routine ...
I wash my face with lukewarm water and Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily cleanser. Pat it dry and use T.N Dickinson’s Witch Hazel toner followed by The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA 30 mL. My everyday makeup is very minimal, it normally only includes sunscreen (always sunscreen), Fenty foundation, filled eyebrows and some lip balm!

What is your night beauty routine?
Remove all makeup using BANILA CO: Clean It Zero Cleansing balm then wash is thoroughly using Keihl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel. I then use The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA to give it a light exfoliation then moisturise the hell out of it with The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane.

"I normally do this whilst listening to The Signal, a daily podcast by ABC and The Daily, by New York Times."

Describe what you do for a living - what does a typical day look like for you?
I work in marketing so work a 9-5 (more or less) job. Generally, my typical day is wake up at 6:45am, do my morning routine, then take my dogs for a walk (I normally do this whilst listening to The Signal, a daily podcast by ABC and The Daily, by New York Times). I then come home, get ready for work and leave home at about 7:30am. I get to work at about 8am, drink two black coffees back-to-back and dive right into it. After work, I’ll come home and take the dogs to the dog park then come home to cook dinner for myself and my girlfriend, Emma.

What are the supermarket / drug store / chemist beauty products that you use and love?
Hmm ... I consistently use T.N Dickinson’s Witch Hazel toner! Other than that, probably Sukin's SPF30 sunscreen and Cetaphil moisturiser for my body.

What products do you use on your body?
I don’t do anything special for my body but I think moisturising daily is key! I use Cetaphil moisturiser.

How do you keep fit and healthy? Does exercise form a large part of your routine?
I am conscious of my physical health and try to exercise at least four times a week, although I don’t always find myself doing it. Usually it’s high intensity or weight / conditioning. Although have been thinking of picking up boxing!

What cosmetic procedures / professional treatments to you have as part of your beauty routine?
I haven’t done anything yet but am curious of laser treatment. Also, the face massage that’s meant to stimulate collagen.

What do you do when your body needs to recover?
Rest - both physically and mentally.

You’re tired/ hungover/ rundown: what's your beauty hack?
A long shower helps! Then normally follow it up with a face mask (I tend to always have Aesop’s Parsley Seed Cleansing masque around), put on a film and keep hydrated — coconut water helps!

What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine?
Take off ALL your make up, even when you’re tired and/or intoxicated and moisturise.

Do you have a beauty icon? Who are they and why?
Zoë Kravitz! I think she embraces ‘natural’ very well. Also, she looks INCREDIBLE in red lipstick and how can anyone resist that?

What is the best advice on beauty you’ve received?
Mum always made sure I was taking all my make up off every night. It’s second nature to me now so I’m incredibly grateful for that.

What is the best advice on health you’ve received?
Keep hydrated! H2O is your best friend.

What is the one product you can’t live without?
Hmmm…. It would have to be my moisturiser.
