Still obsessed with ‘Maxton Hall’? Here’s what to watch next

maxton hall

One thing about the RUSSH team? We love a teen drama. But ever since The Summer I Turned Pretty Ended, we've been left with a fairly gaping hole in our watch lists, as far as the teen genre goes. That is, until Maxton Hall came along. Set inside the polished, high-pressure world of an elite school, it blends slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance with class tension, ambition and secrets. In other words, it's incredibly easy to binge.

If you finished season two in one sitting and and have been left twiddling your thumbs waiting for more of Ruby and James in season three, we've got just the solution. Below, more shows that hit the same notes of intense romances and high-status worlds. Keep scrolling for six shows like Maxton Hall we think you'll love.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

Well, obviously. It doesn't take place in a school, but it's rife with similar romance and miscommunication. If you've somehow missed all three seasons, TSITP follows Belly as she returns to her family’s summer house each year and finds herself caught between two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. Like Maxton Hall, it’s driven by slow-burn feelings, emotional distance and the kind of romantic tension that builds through very intense glances and silences.

Where to watch: Prime Video

Gossip Girl

Another classic. Gossip Girl (the original) should basically be required watching if you love Maxton Hall. Set inside an exclusive private school in Manhattan, it follows a tightly knit group of wealthy teenagers whose lives are controlled by status, reputation, secrets and, you guessed it, Gossip Girl.

Where to watch: Netflix

Elite

For another international watch, look no further. Elite is a Spanish drama that follows three working-class students who are granted scholarships to attend Las Encinas, one of Spain’s most prestigious private schools. Naturally, plenty of clashes between new and established students, as well as lots of romance, follows.

Where to watch: Netflix

Normal People

Less scandalous, but certainly still worthy of a mention. Normal People focuses on the emotional tension between two people who never quite get their timing right, following Marianne and Connell from secondary school through to university as they drift in and out of each other’s lives. Fans of Maxton Hall’s push-pull romance will love this one.

Where to watch: Stan

Rivals

Based on the novel by Jilly Cooper, Rivals sits firmly in the world of adult power and privilege, rather than schools — but there are similarities. The series follows wealthy, ambitious figures in 1980s British television, whose personal and professional lives become fairly chaotic thanks to power struggles and romantic entanglements. Affair-driven storylines, social warfare and reputation management mirror the addictive high-stakes of Maxton Hall.

Where to watch: Disney +

Vampire Diaries

If you like something a little darker, The Vampire Diaries leans into that energy through supernatural stakes. The story follows Elena Gilbert, an orphaned teenage girl who becomes entangled with two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon. A love triangle ensues across eight seasons, echoing the emotional intensity that we see between Ruby and James.

Where to watch: HBO Max
