Christian Dior has always been one luxury Maison with countless house iconographies and emblems to flair. And certainly not one to be afraid of carrying out its design legacy into conquering the world of furniture and homewares.

 

 

Described in a memoir as "sober, simple and above all classic and Parisian" by Monsieur Dior himself, this time around the Maison has brought back a focus to its infamous house Medallion Chair. For this is, of course, the Maison's symbol of Louis XVI and one of Dior's most luxurious house emblems (also obviously being a key holder to Dior's townhouse, 30 Avenue Montaigne) this oval rounded chair has seated many generations of house guests, fashion goers and served much time at Dior's runway shows.

 

 

Now aligned with one of Milan's biggest furniture fairs, Salone del Mobile, the Maison has asked seventeen carefully selected artists to reinterpret Dior's Medallion Chair for show. Yet to be unprecedented in creativity and ingenuity, artists from Korea, Italy, Japan to Lebanon will all take part in the Medallion Chair's reinterpretation.

 

The seventeen artists include Sam Baron, Nacho Carbonell, Pierre Charpin, Dimorestudio, Khaled El Mays, Martino Gamper, Constance Guisset, India Mahdavi, nendo, Joy de Rohan Chabot, Linde Freya Tangelder, Atang Tshikare, Seungjin Yang, Ma Yansong, Jinyeong Yeon, Tokujin Yoshioka and Pierre Yovanovitch; who all set out in marking different artistic sensibilities to the Maison's most emblematic object of desire.

 

 

Our favourites include the highly modern and abstract reinterpretation in aluminium by artist Linde Freya Tangelder, along with the highly conceptualised pieces by Lebanon artist and architecturally trained Khaled El Mays.
