There's no shortage of casting news at the moment, but every so often an announcement stops us in our tracks. And today, it's that Jake Shane has landed a role opposite some seriously big names in Wishful Thinking.
The Instagram-comedian-turned-Podcast-host has already dabbled in acting, with a small but mighty role as Deborah's social media assistant in Hacks. So, could this be the start of a more meaningful career in film? Let's investigate.
Who else is involved in Wishful Thinking?
The film is lead by Maya Hawke and Lewis Pullman, who you'll know from the likes of Lessons in Chemistry, and Top Gun: Maverick.
And now, we've got the names of six other actors rounding out the cast: Jake Shane, Randall Park, Amita Rao (who we fell in love with in Adults), Eric Rahill, Kate Berlant, and Kerry Kenney-Silver (who pulled on our heart strings opposite Steve Carell in The Four Seasons).
Behind the scenes, Wishful Thinking is the work of emerging writer-director Graham Parkes, and is being produced by Highway 10, Buckwild, and Pinky Promise. Graham Patrick Martin, Cameron Fuller and Sarah Mather are also on board as executive producers.
What is Wishful Thinking about?
So far, we know that the film is about a couple (Hawke and Pullman) who learn that "that their emotional state has supernatural consequences on the world around them. They must then decide whether to fight for their relationship or accept that their powerful connection might be doing more harm than good." It's vague, but a fitting premise for Hawke, whose star-making turn came in the upside down (no pun intended) world of Stranger Things.
As for what kinds of roles Shane and the rest of the ensemble have been cast as, that remains to be seen. We'll keep you updated as we know more.
When will it come out?
While details on the release are scant, we do know that filming for Wishful Thinking is currently underway in Portland, Oregon. Here's hoping Shane shares the process on TikTok.
