A winter skincare edit for 2021

Winter got your skin feeling dry and lacklustre? Never fear, there are plenty of ways to help get your glow back.

In addition to drinking water, eating well and being kind to yourself, there are a few products on my favourites list that I come back to, time and time again for happy and healthy skin. Below, find a list of winter skincare heroes designed to nourish, protect and renew when your skin is feeling at it's most dry and vulnerable.

For when you need to heal: Avène Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective

If you have any sort of skin irritation, this is your solve. Designed for the most sensitive skin. It includes skin nourishing and protective zinc to help skin heal and to soothe.

For all day protection without the dryness: Natural Hydrating Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF-30

Yes, you still need a sunscreen in winter and this hydrating iteration is particularly kind on blustery days when your skin needs moisture.

For a fresh but happy complexion: Sunday Riley Blue Moon Tranquillity Cleansing Balm

I'm a true believe in oil or balm cleansers even on a regular day. But when it's cold and your skin barrier is more vulnerable, I stand strongly by my balm and oil cleanser preference. This is a calming formula that is extremely kind to skin, perfect for those frosty, wind-burn kind of days.

For all over repair: The Great State Soothing Skin Balm

This solve-all salve is a handbag staple in the cold months. Use on chapped lips or rough elbows, anywhere you need the help. It comes in a plastic-free aluminium tin in a natural formulation, so it ticks all the ethical boxes too.

For cleansed and soft limbs: Minenssey Body Wash

Hot showers are notorious for stripping your skin and leaving you with lizard legs. But on those uncomfortably cold days, a hot shower can feel necessary. So, it's helpful to use a body wash designed to nourish your skin and not exacerbate the skin-drying effects of hot water. This Minenssey formula is gentle and enriched with plant oils.

For all over nourishment: The Body Shop Hemp Shower Oil

I can't stop, won't stop recommending this one. If you want to take it one step further and hydrate as you wash, try this. It's hands-down one of my favourite beauty products ever. My only wish is that The Body Shop would start making it in a bigger size.

For protected skin all day: Swisse Bio-Ceramides Renewing Defence Cream

Winter time calls for ceramides, ceramides and more ceramides. These are the oils and natural moisturising factors in your skin that keep it healthy and protected. Since winter temperatures, hot showers and central heating can disrupt them, sometimes you need to add extra ceramides yourself. Enter Swisse's Bio-Ceramide Cream, here to replace the ceramides you've lost.

For a gentle exfoliation: Synergie Skin Luciderm

Winter temperatures can make your skin more vulnerable and putting harsh actives on compromised skin isn't the best idea. So, I will normally try to swap to actives that are gentler. This is exactly what Luciderm is made for, it's an acid-freee chemical exfoliating serum. It uses enzymes instead to help keep your skin clear without disrupting your barrier function.

For a midday refresh: Lesse Regeneration Face Mist

Lesse's Regeneration Mist is all about calm and repair, exactly what your skin needs in the frigid weather. This formula lives on my desk for whenever I need a little pick-me-up.

For gentle anti-ageing: Dr Roebuck's Ningaloo Firming Serum

Active ingredients can often cause skin reactions, especially when your skin is more vulnerable. But if you find you still have anti-aging or other goals you wish to pursue, this serum offers a wonderful balance. The active here, copper peptide is both healing and firming. So get the benefit of the active ingredient, just in a more gentle way.

For a bronzed glow when you don't want to wear foundation: TAN-LUXE The Face Anti-Age Self Tanner

If you miss your summer glow but can't be fussed applying foundation, especially if it's rainy, try this. These self tan drops can be added to your night cream to help you wake up with a bronzey glow.

For weekly balance: Fresh Rose Face Mask

Did you know rose has roughly the same pH as our skin? If your complexion is feeling a little off kilter, Fresh's Rose Face Mask can help recalibrate you skin barrier. Its incredibly nourishing and balancing.

For all-natural nourishment: The Body Shop 100% Natural Shea Butter

For lizard skin that won't leave, try this. It's nothing but 100% shea butter. No fragrance, no added oils. Just shea butter. Use it all over for the silkiest skin of your life.
