As a chronic wearer of mini skirts, I am pleased to report that there is a forecasted return to practicality on the horizon. Apologies to the Diesel belt skirts and Miu Miu pleated micro-minis, but this season is all about the skort. Yes, just like the ones you used to wear in primary school or on the netball court – but hear me out, I strongly believe they should have a place in your wardrobe as an adult, too.
The humble skort has had a bad rep over the years – it isn't closely associated with being particularly fashion-forward, and it's certainly not considered very sexy – but it's practical, functional and comfortable, three qualities that most minis, unfortunately, lack. But more than that, we're starting to see brands take to the trend in stores and on runways (yes, we see you Prada SS24), which means that there are a multitude of cute new designs on the market ready to give your minis a run for their money.
So you're probably wondering where to buy them? Here, we've rounded up some of our current favourite skorts and where to buy them.
If you love the pleated Miu Miu girl look, and want to find a high-end skort alternative, we're loving this one from Helmut Lang, which comes in black and beige colour ways.
Another luxury option you're sure to get your wear out of, this time by Christian Dior. A simple, sleek, A-line mini will hardly go astray (or out of fashion) in your wardrobe.
For something that dabbles a little closer to athleisurewear, this Nike skort is elevated and functional with a built-in pocket. Sure it's great for all your tennis or jogging needs, but we're also envisioning it as a great festival outfit option.
Girlfriend Collective's skorts come in a myriad of colour ways and are crafted from stretchy, recycled fabric that's good for the planet and flattering on the body. We're loving this white version at the moment.
Another skirt that leans into the silhouette of sportswear without actually being sportswear. Coperni are early adopters of the skort trend, with several different styles available. We love this simple black logo version though. Versatile and timeless.
Cargo skort anyone? Izzue's Logo-Patch Wrap Skort is flattering in shape, comfortable in wear and functional in style. We love the big pocket, and the button fasten.
Outdoor Voices are the kings of comfortable athleisure-wear and this skort is no exception to the rule. We love this espresso colour, which keeps things casual and street-ready.
Denim skirts are not to be forgotten on this list. Free People have long been denim connoisseurs, and this denim cargo skort is adorable and great for when you don't want to carry a bag. We'll never say no to that much pocket storage!
If you're looking for something that feels a little less Y2K and a little more French and preppy, this MAJE black pleated skort has got you covered. Literally.
Sandy Liang is another skort-loving designer that we're obsessed with. This grey pleated micro-mini skort is a must for us. But she has a myriad of skort styles available from seasons past on her website.
