We never thought this day would come: after three agonising seasons of yearning, The Summer I Turned Pretty is coming to an end.
If you've tuned in (or have just been bombarded with TikTok edits), you'll know it's been a rocky ride to get here. Each episode has seen fans flip-flop in their allegiance to either Conrad or Jeremiah, with the final episode (hopefully) culminating in Belly choosing one brother, once and for all. But as the final episode inches closer, a new conspiracy has caught fire amongst TSITP fandom: could season three actually be extended to a total of 14 episodes? It might sound like a reach, but there is actually some pretty convincing behind it all. Allow us to explain.
The number 14 has cropped up a lot
There are a number of reasons this rumour has gained traction. The first is that we've seen the number 14 everywhere recently. In the Christmas flashback, Belly's sweatshirt reads '14'. When she and Conrad are shopping at Michel's, there's a $14 sign. Susannah died on April 14. Conrad departs to California from Gate 14 at the airport. When Belly moves into her own apartment in Paris, the moving boxes are printed with 14. And for those with a serious eye for detail, the digits of Conrad’s fare difference when he books a flight from Brussels to Paris, $473, add up to 14. Coincidence? We're not convinced.
The official TSITP Instagram has deleted the episode schedule
No, you're not imagining it. There was an episode schedule on the show's official social channels, but it has mysteriously disappeared.
In it's place, the TSITP TikTok page has commented on a video of Conrad and Belly (posted by Jenny Han herself), "Why is this video four hours long?" Four... 14... are we onto something here?
A 14-episode schedule would push the finale to October 8
This date might seem inconspicuous from the outset, but upon closer inspection, you'll notice that the number 8 is an infinity symbol... Which is a pretty huge deal if you fall into the 'Team Conrad' camp.
Chapter 14 of 'It's Not Summer Without You' was a big deal
Cast your mind back to book two, It’s Not Summer Without You, and you'll remember that chapter 14 is when Belly discovered her infinity necklace in Conrad’s dorm room. While the show followed a different turn of events, we can't help but notice the significance of this one.
There's still a lot of ground to cover
Last, but certainly not least, there's still plenty of ground to cover if we're going to get a neat ending in the final episode. Call it wishful thinking, but we'd argue there's a little too much plot to get through in just one episode. Will Belly move back to the US? Will she end things with Bonito? Will she cut her hair?!? We could go on.
