Romance Was Born steps into paradise

A slice of Australiana in Paris. Romance Was Born debuted for the first time at Paris Fashion Week, hosting its Step Into Paradise ‘kinda couture’ runway collection at a 125-year-old Parisian gymnasium. Inspired by the works of Chinese-Australian artist Jenny Kee (who attended the show), the collection captured the label’s quintessential whimsy through neon-coloured beading, feathered fringing and delicate embroidery, and paid homage to the brand’s Antipodean roots in references to the Great Barrier Reef and┬áDorothea McKellar’s iconic poem, My┬áCountry. Here, Contributing Editor Kitty Callaghan offers a behind the scenes glimpse into the couture collection.
