Burt for those who have whizzed through all six episodes, you might be left with a fairly big hole in your watch schedule. Luckily, we've find five more shows like The Girlfriend that live in the same unsettling realm, and are worth watching next.
Behind Her Eyes
One of the more unusual shows to hit our screens in recent years, Behind Her Eyes is a psychological thriller with a supernatural twist. Based on the book by Sarah Pinborough, it follows single mother Louise, who begins an affair with her psychiatrist boss and befriends his mysterious wife. It doesn't take long for a triangle of obsession to unfold between the three — but trust us when we say nothing is as it appears in this show. Expect the twist of all twists at the end.
You
If you're not already acquainted with this five-season smash hit, allow us to catch you up. Joe Goldberg is charming, bookish — and a stalker. Each season of You follows his latest fixation (usually women he has fallen in love with), as Joe attempts to control the narrative of love, always with violent consequences.

Killing Eve
This was the show that made us fall in love with Jodie Comer – she plays a glamorous, quirky (to put it lightly) assasin, who finds herself embroiled with an MI6 agent (played by Sandra Oh). With sharp writing courtesy of names like Phoebe Waller Bridge and Emerald Fennell , dark humour, and magnetic performances, it’s a story about attraction, identity, and obsession.

Sweetpea
If you're okay with a bit of blood and gore, this one might be for you. Ella Purnell plays Rhiannon, an introverted young woman who finds herself constantly overlooked by others. One day, the frustration leads her to murdering someone – only to find she's addicted to the attention the death earns her. This is a tale of revenge you won't be able to look away from.

Conversations with Friends
While not a psychological thriller as such, this one does deal with complicated relationships. It charts two college students who become entangled with an older married couple in Dublin. What begins as an easy friendship grows complicated as emotional lines blur. It's a meditation on love, power, and the performance of connection.

Obsession
When a respected London surgeon begins an affair with his son’s fiancée, it spirals into a secret both erotic and (unsurprisingly) destructive. There are only four episodes in this miniseries, but don't let that put you off. Desire and conflict is constantly simmering beneath the surface, until it finally breaks through at the end.
