There's something about Scandinavian interior design that allows one to feel like they can finally breathe. It's refreshing, relaxing, loose and laid back. Formulated so even our clutter looks deliberate and chic.

The European region – which comprises just four countries and 27 million people – has redefined style and design across the globe. While locals, and those with their heads in coffee table books, can pinpoint what separates Swedish design from Danish, we're focused on what links these countries distinct design language.

Scandinavian design is well-versed in space economy, no matter the room size. As a child, I remember the sheer expanse I would feel entering my Farmor's apartment in Varberg, a small town an hour South of Gothenburg. The wood floors, big windows and slimline furniture beget engendered a vastness – yet it was just an ordinary two bedroom apartment. In the winter, we'd spend days inside making ginger bread and eating kanelbullar in her cosy galley kitchen. And in summer, we'd open the windows and let the breeze sigh energy into the space. Her apartment and its design was something that could offer both unbridled comfort, warmth and all-day entertainment in the long and dark winter, but also carefree relaxation during the 18-daylight-hour days of summer. And it is this that is the essence of true Scandinavian design. It's transformative, it's innovative, devoid of any fuss or tricks.
