Margot Robbie and Tim Burton might reboot the Sci-Fi classic ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’

We've been on a bit of a Sci-Fi binge ever since Villneuve's Dune reboot, but we're excited to see a few more cult classics get a modern makeover. Today, it was announced that Aussie actress Margot Robbie may soon be teaming up with Tim Burton in a high-profile remake of the 1958 cult sci-fi film Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman. And let's just say, we're sat for this news.

Here's everything we know so far...

Who will be involved?

According to early reports, Robbie is in preliminary discussions to headline the Warner Bros. project and produce through her company LuckyChap (who did Barbie), alongside partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.

Burton, best known for his unique gothic style in films like Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas (and more recently, Beetlejuice 2 and Netflix's Wednesday), is attached to direct and produce.

Producers Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper are also on board, with Kai Dolbashian acting as executive producer.

Initially, acclaimed screenwriter Gillian Flynn (best known for Gone Girl) wrote a draft of the screenplay. However, she has since stepped away due to other obligations. The producers are currently searching for a new writer to take over the script, and Robbie’s starring role will hinge on the final version of the screenplay.

What is the film about?

The original Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman film was a 1958 science fiction film about a wealthy but troubled woman named Nancy Archer (played by the iconic Daryl Hannah) who encounters an alien and is transformed into a giant. After growing to enormous size, she seeks revenge on her unfaithful husband and those who wronged her. The film blends themes of jealousy, betrayal, and empowerment in a campy, dramatic style typical of 1950s sci-fi cinema.

When will it be released?

At this point, the film is still in very early production stages, so we likely won't see this one on screens until at least late 2026 or early 2027. Robbie still has her Wuthering Heights remake to promote in the meantime as well...
