We'll admit it, after over two years in lockdown in complete existential stress the last thing on our minds is putting on a full face of makeup. We would love nothing more than to wipe away the pandemic from our collective memory like that of our mascara at the end of the day. Now with summer here and our days spent safely soaking in the glorious Vitamin D, we relish in these simplest forms of beauty even more so. As it turns out, we aren't alone here if the latest drop of product selections are anything to go by. We are of course referring to "skinmalism", the Makeup-skincare hybrid trend that is currently taking over our collective mind space.

What is Hybrid skincare?
In short, hybrid skincare falls on the spectrum between makeup and skincare. It brings the best of both worlds, sheer skin tints, barely there lash tints, glow worthy cheek tints, anything offering the bare minimum of colour and coverage, with the inclusion of added skincare benefits. Which in effect enhances the benefits of regular makeup and skincare proving to be a helpful aid for the bank and beauty bag.
What beauty product is the best in achieving skinmalism?
There are many worth noting on the skinmalism agenda, but the mainstays here are moisturisers, primers, face oils, serums, under eye balms and tints. The less invasive on the skin the better, the idea is to maximise the hydration and glow from deep within the cells.
Is there a routine involved with skinmalism?
An optimum rule of thumb is to hydrate and keep the look to a bare minimum. You want the skin to look like it's spent 12 hours in a day spa, with no fuss. The best way to achieve this is to start with a well executed skincare routine. The moisturiser and serum is essential here, making sure it's light weight enough not to clog the pores or create excessive shine. Followed by a light sunscreen, some cheek tint and finally rounded up with some tinted moisturiser for good measure.
So with that in mind we've put together a list of the current must haves for your next skinmalism routine.
1. Best Skin Hybrids
Both illuminating and hydrating, Chanel's Les Beiges Eau de Teint is packed to the brim with micro-fluidic properties, meaning that it contains micro-droplets of concentrated pigment that seeps seamlessly into your skin. Not only is it super simple to use, but it creates a blurring effect and softens the skin for a barely-there effect.
A light as air skin tint, the Ciaté London Dewy Skin Glass Glow Skin Tint provides light to medium coverage while supplementing the skin with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and dragon fruit extract, combining a moisturiser and foundation.
2. Best Eye Hybrids
If like us, you have those days where the puffiness is on another level, skinmalism may feel out of reach, this is the perfect option to try. It's loaded with vitamin C, plant-derived squalane and hyaluronic acid, as well as pea protein to protect from blue light damage and reduce puffiness.
When it comes to skinmalism keeping the base hydrated is the focal point. Our under eye region, can be a particular area of concern. Enter, Tatcha's tinted eye cream to get makeup and skincare benefits in one. It's made with a Hadasei-3 superfood blend and contains light-reflecting pigments and pearl extract to perk up the eyes all day long.
3. Best Serum Hybrids
One of our favourite beauty icons Rosie Huntington-Whitley's has hit the nail on the head when it comes to this trend. With her brand Rose Inc releasing a hybrid skincare-makeup must-have. The Luminous Tinted Skin Serum contains pigment spheres in a serum-like formula of hyaluronic acid, squalene and peptides to offer makeup-like coverage while plump your complexion. But of course there is more —it’s non-comedogenic and formulated to avoid pore blockage.
This wonder serum doubles as a primer, so you can use it at the beginning of your hybrid skin routine, or you can skip it altogether for a crystal-clear skin look thanks to the diamond mineral powder.
4. Best Lip & Cheek Hybrids
The cult favourite and pretty much sold out everywhere thanks to our beauty friends at TikTok . If you can get your hands on this it is truly the best of best, infused with Cherry oil, it deeply protects while enhancing the pout. Aiding to bring out the natural lip colour for a truly sensual glow.
We would be remiss not to mention our main complexion enhancer, cheek tint. Drunk Elephant and their Rosi drops bring your skin to life, containing fatty acids, omegas and antioxidants to illuminate the face. This product is multidimensional used on its own or added into skin tints, amping your skin up to luxe levels.
Skincare, environmental protection, and makeup all rolled into one, this wonder formula protects and offers a dreamy glow. A skin-first elixir with a hint of tint to even tone and smooth any imperfections, it offers a deliciously dewy and weightless sheer coverage that you can build on throughout the day.
