The birth of skinmalism – a list of all the best makeup-skincare hybrid products you should know about

We'll admit it, after over two years in lockdown in complete existential stress the last thing on our minds is putting on a full face of makeup. We would love nothing more than to wipe away the pandemic from our collective memory like that of our mascara at the end of the day. Now with summer here and our days spent safely soaking in the glorious Vitamin D, we relish in these simplest forms of beauty even more so. As it turns out, we aren't alone here if the latest drop of product selections are anything to go by. We are of course referring to "skinmalism", the Makeup-skincare hybrid trend that is currently taking over our collective mind space.

What is Hybrid skincare?

In short, hybrid skincare falls on the spectrum between makeup and skincare. It brings the best of both worlds, sheer skin tints, barely there lash tints, glow worthy cheek tints, anything offering the bare minimum of colour and coverage, with the inclusion of added skincare benefits. Which in effect enhances the benefits of regular makeup and skincare proving to be a helpful aid for the bank and beauty bag.

What beauty product is the best in achieving skinmalism?

There are many worth noting on the skinmalism agenda, but the mainstays here are moisturisers, primers, face oils, serums, under eye balms and tints. The less invasive on the skin the better, the idea is to maximise the hydration and glow from deep within the cells.

Is there a routine involved with skinmalism?

An optimum rule of thumb is to hydrate and keep the look to a bare minimum. You want the skin to look like it's spent 12 hours in a day spa, with no fuss. The best way to achieve this is to start with a well executed skincare routine. The moisturiser and serum is essential here, making sure it's light weight enough not to clog the pores or create excessive shine. Followed by a light sunscreen, some cheek tint and finally rounded up with some tinted moisturiser for good measure.

So with that in mind we've put together a list of the current must haves for your next skinmalism routine.

1. Best Skin Hybrids

Les Beiges Eau de Teint by Chanel

Both illuminating and hydrating, Chanel's Les Beiges Eau de Teint is packed to the brim with micro-fluidic properties, meaning that it contains micro-droplets of concentrated pigment that seeps seamlessly into your skin. Not only is it super simple to use, but it creates a blurring effect and softens the skin for a barely-there effect.
