My Diego: Mirror of the night. Your eyes green swords inside my flesh. Waves between our hands.
All of you in a space full of sounds – in the shade and in the light. – Frida Kahlo
Spinning a tumultuous love story that spurred some of history’s most revered artworks, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera were one another’s muse and heartache. From June 25, the Art Gallery of NSW is displaying a selection of both artists’ works from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman collection, including a series of Kahlo’s self-portraits and examples of Rivera’s canvas paintings. Accompanying the exhibition is a series of intimate photographs revealing the captivating nature of the couple’s relationship and creative process, including stills captured by Kahlo’s father, photographer Guillermo Kahlo.
