The art of staying in: a weekend at home with Jess Blanch

Music for moods and My Own Private Idaho. Editor in Chief Jess Blanch on making time at home luxury.

Relax ...
My dream is to sit on a Bambole sofa and stare at a favourite artwork or watch a film, something I've seen before like My Own Private Idaho.

Read ...
I practice the art of tsundoku always buying more books than I could possibly read. There are a lot of collectables like Time’s Arrow.

Listen ...
Yo La Tengo's Stuff Like That There for sitting on the sofa and replying to messages.
Any DMX  album for cleaning the house.
The Modern Lovers for when I am home alone.
When I have people over I love a nostalgic playlist of Springsteen, Dire Straits, Tom Petty, Billy Idol and other songs my dad might understand.

Smell ...
Anything put together by Dr Lisa Cooper, gardenias, the smell of our new Christmas Tree, Bydredo’s Bibliotheque candle.

Eat ...
Parmesan is by far the most important and constant ingredient in my fridge. Also Oritz sardines with really good butter on fresh bread is a last moment entertaining saviour. Unexpected dinner guests always seem to be happy with pasta, olive oil and fresh herbs. The simplest meals really are always the best.

Drink ...
When I moved in with my boyfriend over a decade ago we had our first meal on the floor eating pizza from the box with a bottle of 1997 St Hugo Cabernet Sauvignon, so it’s a sentimental wine and I always try to keep some at home. Otherwise Capi mineral water and Remedy kombucha.

Do ...
Very little, but how I wish I was the kind of person who sat at home and played chess.
