Gucci Vault and Gohar World have united for a collaboration based around the dining table

Gucci Vault and Gohar World – two brands grounded in family – are coming together for a collaboration based around the dining table.

Launching today, the exclusive capsule merges the signature codes of each party involved into a collection of tableware that could have been the prized possession of someone's ethnic grandmother. There's mother of pearl serving spoons and plates embellished with prints of beans – a vegetable Laila Gohar adores and cooks often, as did her grandmother. You'll find a showing of Egyptian linens and Battenburg lace doilies as well, which are designed in New York City and sewn by Laila and Nadia's relatives at their Cairo atelier.

Both artists in their own right – Laila a cook who transforms food into edible installations and Nadia a painter – the two sisters behind Gohar World have latched onto the kitschy aesthetic of Gucci and carved out a space for it to exist in the domestic sphere. There are a handful of references to Gucci's Italian heritage, seen in the tealight candles made to emulate ricotta and Venetian glass candy serving as cutlery (or chopstick) rests.

Speaking to W, Laila Gohar said of the collection, "The colors we used for this collection were definitely inspired by the Gucci palette. I like thinking about a brand that way: Not as products, but a universe. Alessandro Michele has crafted this fantasy planet and everything he designs comes from this place".

If we too think of Gohar World and Gucci Vault in Gohar's terms, then we're convinced both labels are from the same universe. One unafraid to embrace the conventionally ugly and lean into nostalgia in the hope of conjuring warm spaces for meaningful interactions.
