Grey is so much more than a colour to the House of Dior. Sentimental and evocative of the in-between, the hue harks back to the couturier's family home in Granville, Normandy. It is the resounding colour of couture, and at 30 Avenue Montaigne, a pearly grey coats the boutique's outer walls. It is also the name of the most popular scent from the House's La Collection Privée fragrance line. Coincidence? I think not.

In a world where nothing is black and white, Dior invites us to inhabit The Grey Zone. This, of course, is the title of the temporary exhibition hosted by Dior at a gallery space on Melrose Avenue in LA. Using the Gris Dior fragrance as a springboard, Dior opened the floor to five international artists for the exhibition, inviting them to reinterpret the signature shade through the lens of their own practice.

Taking place from April 11 until 16, Australian actor Felix Mallard took RUSSH inside the opening night of the immersive exhibition, where friends of the House like Jenna Ortega and Thuso Mbedu, along with other notable faces like Alexandra Daddario, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Thomas Doherty, mingled amidst the cross-disciplinary works.

The space itself was drenched in a host of grey hues, lending itself as a tabula rasa for the artists. On one wall stretched a text-forward street art-inspired painting in the Gris Dior colours created by Canadian artist Ben Johnston. In another corner, guests could interact with a sound installation from American-English musician Mileece, who makes music with plants. Elsewhere, Parisian art collective, Collectif Scale, merge visual art and music in a box where the chypre notes of Gris Dior are diffused from inside.

Also featured in the exhibition were works from Argentinian digital artist Andrés Reisinger and live paintings from Dutch artist Thomas Trum, using the Dior Grey pantone.

In addition to these artworks, Dior presented a gradient wall filled with miniature couture designs that capture the full Dior grey scale spectrum; from the palest of greys to the deep purple tones.
