At midnight on the morning of Friday May 22 AEST, Christian Dior unveiled its Gem Bag clutch.

But this was not just any ordinary launch, and this is certainly no ordinary bag. Christian Dior chose to YouTube as the stage for the first public showing of its new creation, celebrating with a video that shows the creative process of design this bag - from sketching to the final stitch.

The Gem Bag clutch has been jointly designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Victoire de Castellane (a first at Dior), the creative directors of Christian Dior Couture and Dior Fine Jewellery. Just as the name would suggest, the Gem Bag is finished with with gold and jewel detailing.

The clutch combines the true couture expertise of Christian Dior. Born from the union  of leather goods and jewellery  savoir-faire  excellence, it's assembled by hand in the House’s ateliers. With gold and precious jewels, the Gem Bag clutch is adorned with  emblematic House  jewels, such as  the  Rose Dior Bagatelle  collection. It's a truly precious objet d’art that marries haute maroquinerie and haute joaillerie - as the French would say.

Merging fashion design and jewellery, this piece is a collectable - a celebration of  the art of detail and exceptional craftsmanship.

We can't help but marvel with envy over this green satin  minaudière. And you will too once you watch the video. It's a beautiful insight into the design, craftsmanship and skill that goes into the creation of a piece like this. The film shows the Gem Bag a the sketch stage, it shows the clasp being shape. It shows the jewels added, slowly and meticulously - all by hand. The glossy satin is measured and cut, stitched and adorned with the classic Christian Dior plate. It's cathartic and awe-inspiring to watch the creation of this totally unique piece.

Take a look for yourself and you'll see exactly what we mean. Watch all the steps that lead to the finished product, the Gem Bag in the video below.
