There are few streets in Australia as iconic as Sydney’s Pitt Street. It’s the heart of the city, and the heart of the shopping precinct, filled with buildings new and old that communicate the codes of the luxury Houses whose flagships make up the busy streets. Amid these streets, there is a sense of transportation. One that takes you to Paris, Milan, even Ibiza, each store catapulting you into a world that is not your own, inviting you to escape, even if just for an hour. Chaumet is one of them. Situated at the intersection of Pitt Street and King Street, Sydney, Chaumet’s new flagship is housed in a 19th Century building, masterfully designed for complete immersion into the Maison’s universe, one that is rich in history and culture.
Intended to mimic the House’s French roots, the new Chaumet flagship has been designed with Paris in mind, nodding to the light and airy apartments of the Place Vendôme with touches of modernity to connect back to Australian culture. Reimagining the codes of the House through strong lines and precise forms, Chaumet’s new home will be residence to a unique selection of artisanal creations, contemporary designs, ornaments, frescoes and sculptures bearing the effigy of iconic Chaumet tiaras. Featuring a selection of High Jewellery along with the Maison’s emblematic collections, this new space champions Chaumet’s symbolic references dialogue with artistic contributions.
There is something powerful about a space that invites us to come inside, to surround oneself with precious and sentimental objects, to experience the world of a House and its offering. Chaumet’s new destination meets these expectations, extending the dream into private salons, dedicated to those who are hoping to try on pieces in complete privacy. One is decorated with a mural created in collaboration with Atelier De la Torre, while another – dedicated to weddings – features a work by Olivia Ansaldi.
It is the kind of environment where time stands still. Where history, culture, craftsmanship, and sentiment are all tied together, creating a bridge between the outside world and the Chaumet universe, offering a sense of peace and serenity off one of Sydney’s busiest streets. Muted walls and furnishings give way to sparkling pieces, glimmering under perfectly placed lighting that urges the feeling of intimacy and relaxation. A place to escape, a place to indulge. A place that welcomes true beauty in all of its iterations.
