Here in Sydney, we're in the midst of what we like to call a cinnamon scroll takeover. Doughy, sticky, sometimes iced, and always best eaten fresh from the oven, the perfect scroll doesn’t just satisfy a sugar craving, it wraps you in a soft, buttery embrace. Several Sydney bakeries know this well, and they’ve made it their mission to perfect the art of the cinnamon scroll, with lines snaking through streets on weekend mornings as customers clamour to get their hands on these creations.
Whether you like yours classic, iced, or topped with a twist (perhaps with pistachio crumble?), here are the cinnamon scrolls worth getting out of bed for in Sydney.
1. Bobo Bakery, Rosebery, Paddington, Bondi

Bobo’s cinnamon scrolls are almost too pretty to eat. The pillowy golden spirals are available in a range of flavours, including classic cinnamon, Nutella bueno, pistachio, and apple crumble, depending on the day. They have stalls at the Cannery in Rosebery on the first weekend of every month, plus the Paddington Markets on all other Saturdays, and the Bondi Market on all other Sundays. Trust us, this is pastry perfection worth travelling across Sydney for.
2. Sundays, Bondi

A new addition to Bondi, this small but mighty bakery went viral even before it had opened. Open Friday to Sunday, their scrolls attract hour-long crowds, but its worth the wait for a taste of the classics, and the monthly flavour special. Their drinks offering is also making waves, including an iced coconut coffee cloud, and a kinder bueno matcha. Say less.
3. Baker Bleu, Double Bay

For the discerning scroll-lover, this cinnamon scroll features yeasted brioche dough, laced with with layers of cinnamon butter and cream cheese icing. Best enjoyed with a hot coffee — and perhaps followed up by a savoury treat from the pastry cabinet.
4. Rollers Bakehouse, Manly

A Northern Beaches essential, this sits somewhere between a croissant and a classic cinnamon bun. The outside is flakey and perfectly chewy (and dusted in a healthy serving of cinnamon sugar, no icing), while the inside is a little doughier.
5. Fika, Manly

The Scandinavian original. Fika’s kanelbullar (cinnamon buns) aren't overly sweet, and really champion the cinnamon flavour. Made with cardamom-laced dough and pearl sugar on top, they’re subtle, aromatic and utterly satisfying. If you can time your run just right, you can usually score one warm from the oven, which is akin to a religious experience.
6. Cinnabon, Penrith, North Ryde, Hornsby, Rouse Hill, Haymarket, Paramatta, CBD

The American icon has landed and it's just as good as we'd hoped. This indulgent scroll features molten cinnamon sugar, gooey cream cheese frosting, and a lot of sweetness. It's not subtle, but it's very satisfying.
7. Oregano Bakery, Peakhurst

This family-run bakery specialises in cinnamon scrolls of every variety. They're soft with a gooey cinnamon centre and rotating creative flavours — from Biscoff to cookies and cream, as well as some savoury options. But don’t skip the original, it’s still the scroll everyone comes back for.
8. The Bakery on Glenayr, Bondi

Cinnamon scrolls are just one item on the menu at this Bondi local, but that doesn't make them any delicious. They're flakey and almost croissant-like, but also sweet and sticky at the base. Trust us, these are definitely best eaten warm with a coffee.
