Objects of our desire: Balenciaga debuts new keepsake ‘Objects’ line for the home and beyond

Balenciaga Objects Line

Proving there's nothing they can't, or won't do, Balenciaga is fusing the worlds of fashion and home accessories to create a category of their own; imagined through the launch of their new Objects line. A capsule of items produced outside of the luxury houses' key fashion collections, Objects will be an entirely isolated drop of collectable treasures introduced individually throughout the year.

The accessories line will feature in all realms, from desirable home knick-knacks, to items for every day use, and will be designed to be used in the home as well as on the move. In true Balenciaga fashion, they have not held back with the first offering in the new Objects line, releasing an entirely metal sculpture of their highly-covetable Track.2 sneaker in the exact shape of a size 41. The perfect Christmas gift for the person in your life who has everything (and is a diehard sneaker fan, of course), the limited-edition unwearable sneaker weighs an impressive 2.5 kilograms – certainly not exercise friendly.

Part of Balenciaga's lineage of objects d'art approach, the palladium and brass sculpture is made in Italy and is comprised of 16 moulded pieces; each individually soldered one by one. A cross between an iconic keepsake and dadaist readymade, the brand has transformed the original functionality of the Track.2 sneaker into an inflexible solid that is simply a project of its own.

"Referencing the original shoe’s particular place in popular culture and daily life, this metal version… alludes to the definitive sentimental value and trophy status of designed goods,” the house shared in a statement.

As expected, the first instalment in Balenciaga's Objects line will be no easy feat to track down – and it is certainly accompanied by a limited-edition price tag to match. The Track.2 sculptures have been released in an extremely limited quantity of 20 worldwide.

Getting your hands on Balenciaga's covetable Objects line is a Christmas miracle we're planning on leaving in Santa's hands.
