Audrey Hobert just announced her debut album — get ready to be addicted

audrey hobert

If you've been paying attention, you’ll have heard Audrey Hobert's name — and her voice — what feels like everywhere recently. She first entered the spotlight as best friend and collaborator to Gracie Abrams (Hobert is credited as co-writing hits like 'I Love You, I'm Sorry' and 'That's So True', and frequently performs them alongside Abrams). But earlier this year, she commanded our attention with music of her own: the release of two sharply addictive singles, 'Sue Me' and 'Bowling Alley.' And now, her debut album Who’s The Clown? is set to tie everything together, with twelve tracks that promise (we hope) to instantly get stuck in your head.

Below, everything you need to know about Hobert's debut album.

What do we know about Who's The Clown?

The album is the result of a year of writing and recording with her longtime collaborator, Ricky Gourmet. For those unfamiliar, Gourmet is also the guitarist for musician Finneas, and regularly tours with him.

According to Hobert, the process involved “writing until she was blue in the face,” so we're hoping that there'll be more of the left-of-centre quirk we've fallen in love with in the two lead singles with whatever else is to come. We know there are 12 tracks in total, including a third single which was also released today: 'Wet Hair.' The new song also comes with a self-directed, extremely lo-fi music video, which we've already watched on repeat. You can see for yourself here:

In a press release accompanying the new song, Hobert said it was born from "not being worried about" a breakup. The exact feeling, she explained, is “Not needing to look your best to see your ex, not even needing dry hair. Knowing that you at your physical worst is still his greatest dream. Knowing you have the upper hand and leaning into it in a respectful way."

When will Who's The Clown? be released?

Who’s The Clown? is set for release on August 15.
