‘The Love Hypothesis’ has added four new cast members

If (like us) you have a soft spot for the romantic comedy, then Lili Reinhart's next project might be for you. The actress is set to star in and executive produce The Love Hypothesis, the film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel. A beloved favourite on BookTok, the story is now heading to Amazon MGM Studios, and there's a stellar team charged with bringing it to life.

Below, everything you need to know about The Love Hypothesis.

Who is involved?

Reinhart will star as Olive, and she’s also producing the film under her banner, Small Victory. Directing is Set It Up’s Claire Scanlon, and the screenplay was adapted by Sarah Rothschild. The project is also being produced by Elizabeth Cantillon, with Hazelwood herself attached as an executive producer.

We also officially have confirmation that Tom Bateman has landed the coveted role of Dr. Adam Carlsen, and we're looking forward to seeing him in a slightly different role from his previous work.

Joining the pair is Rachel Marsh (who you might recognise from Adults), and season three of The White Lotus' Nicholas Duvernay. There's also Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan.  There's no word yet on who from the ensemble cast these actors will be playing.

As for Reinhart, news of her role adds to what has already been a big year: she recently won Best Actress at Series Mania for her role in Hal & Harper, and has several projects on the way, including Fake Wedding and Forbidden Fruits.

What is The Love Hypothesis about?

The film follows Olive Smith, a third-year PhD candidate in biology whose lack of romantic experience has led her to stop believing in love entirely. However, she accidentally finds herself in a fake-dating setup, after kissing the first man she sees in an attempt to convince her friend that she's happily dating. The man in question turns out to be Adam Carlsen, a young professor — what follows is (unsurprisingly) something far more real than Olive bargained for.

When does it come out?

There’s no official release date just yet — but with production moving ahead, we’re hoping to see The Love Hypothesis land on Prime Video sometime in 2026.
