Listen, Sydney

“I wouldn’t say that it is painting in particular that is important to me, but the need to make marks that I find vital.” When we met Jordana Henry in our No Fear issue she let us into the depths of her artistic practice: “It’s how I purge and the only way I know how to express the things I can’t say in words.” It’s an understanding she’s shared with fellow artist Lily Nicholson since the two met at art school in 2009. Their natural connection and ongoing visual conversation form the foundation of Listen – the joint exhibition by Henry and Nicholson launching today at Saint Cloche, Paddington. Rendered in varied media – from Nicholson’s watercolour and collage to Henry’s textured house paint – it’s an exploration of land, shape, reality and emotion.
