Christopher Nolan's next project, The Odyssey, is set to be released in mid-2026. Now, not only do we have first-look images and some insight from lead actor Tom Holland on the film, we also officially have a trailer – plus some other surprising casting update. Musician, Travis Scott is the latest big name confirmed to star in Nolan's epic. Here's everything we know.
Surprise, Travis Scott is in The Odyssey too
During the broadcast of an NFL game in the USA, viewers were treated to a new minute-long teaser which showcased previously unseen footage of the upcoming film.
While there were a number of new scenes, it was a short clip featuring Travis Scott – a previously unconfirmed cast member – that caught particular attention. In the clip, Scott is seen addressing the room of people which included Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland, who play Menelaus and Telemachus respectively. “A war, a man, a trick — a trick to break the walls of Troy,” Scott exclaims. “A burning, screaming to the ground.”
If you're not an NFL fan and missed the new teaser, there are plenty of recordings on YouTube that will help you catch up.
Tom Holland called The Odyssey "the job of a lifetime, no doubt"
Filming for the project (which was shot entirely on Imax cameras) has reportedly taken officially wrapped across Morocco, Iceland, Greece, Sicily, and Scotland, with Holland telling GQ Sports that it was "the job of a lifetime, no doubt."
He went into detail on the star-studded set itself, saying it was "The best experience I’ve had on a film set. Incredible. It was exciting. It was different. And I think the movie is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.”
Of course, he also had glowing reviews for director Nolan and producer Emma Scott, saying “Working with Chris, getting to know him and Emma was absolutely fantastic. I’ve never seen someone that can work the way that they do, and there is a reason why they’re the best in the business for sure,” Holland continued. “To get a front row seat to that and to be a part of the process and to collaborate with a true master of his craft and learn from him was the best experience I’ve ever had.”

Who else is Christopher Nolan’s new movie?
The first actors to be cast in the project were Tom Holland and Matt Damon. Appearing on Good Morning America in October, Holland said of the news, "I’m incredibly excited. And, obviously, honoured, but that’s all I can say because, to be honest, that’s all I know.” As for Damon, it's his third time collaborating with the director, having also starred in Interstellar and, more recently, Oppenheimer.
Three powerful women were next to join: Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, and Anne Hathaway. Zendaya and Hathaway have previously shared the screen for a Bulgari campaign, but have yet to work together on a significant project of this kind. Hathaway, however, has experience working with Nolan, who famously cast her in Interstellar, shortly after she faced significant backlash for Les Miserables.
“I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of… And my career did not lose momentum the way it could have if he hadn’t backed me,” the actress said at the time.
Next to join the ensemble was Robert Pattinson, who has previously worked with Nolan on Tenet. The actor has been booked and busy recently, with a sequel to The Batman in the works, plus a starring role in A24's Primetime, and The Drama. Benny Safdie later rounded out the ensemble.
What is The Odyssey about?
According to Universal, The Odyssey is an adaptation of the Greek epic poem written by Homer.
“Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology,” the studio said at the time. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026," the production company said in a statement.
As for exactly what this will entail, the details are still tightly under wraps.
When does it come out?
At this stage, the film is slated for release on July 17, 2026. But the specific date can vary by region. Australian viewers could get the film a day earlier on 16 July to coincide with our standard film release days.
