If you're anything like us, you left the cinema after watching Anora with a newfound soft spot for Yura Borisov. ICYMI, the Russian actor played the misunderstood and hugely likeable hired henchman, Igor — a performance that earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Now, Borisov has found a new role, this time opposite Saltburn star Alison Oliver. Together, the pair are set to lead a romance marking the directorial debut of BAFTA-nominated actress Emily Mortimer. Here's what we know about Dennis.
What is Dennis about?
So far, plot details are scant. What we do know, however, is that Dennis follows a British student (Oliver) and a Russian poet (Borisov) who fall in love in 1990s Moscow.
Who is involved?
As mentioned, Dennis marks the second major role for Borisov, after his star-making turn in Anora. He's also recently been tapped to star opposite Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro in Luca Guadagnino's Artificial. Oliver's career has also recently reached new heights, first with a supporting role in Saltburn, followed by a part in Emerald Fennel's upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation. She's also set to star opposite Mark Ruffalo in HBO’s buzzy crime drama Task.
Though Dennis marks Mortimer's feature directorial debut, she's previously written, directed, and starred in the BBC series The Pursuit Of Love, and the HBO series Doll and Em.
A24 and Emma Stone's Fruit Tree are also both on board. The two production companies most recently collaborated on Jesse Eisenberg's forthcoming untitled comedy (which stars Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti), and his feature directorial debut, When You Finish Saving the World, as well as The Curse, the Showtime series starring Nathan Fielder and Stone.
When will Dennis be released?
There's no word yet on when Dennis will hit cinemas. With the lead actors only just announced, and no word yet on any ensemble casting details, we'd guess that the earliest we;ll be seeing this one is late 2026. We'l keep you updated as we know more.
