Each awards season, there are certain actors and films that rise above the rest to become frontrunners in their respective categories. So, when an outlier comes through to take out a major award, it understandably sends ripples through the industry. This morning, that's exactly what happened, when Robert Aramayo beat out major names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet to nab Best Actor for his role in I Swear at the BAFTAs. So who is the man who went home victorious? Everything we know about Aramayo, below.

He's being recognised for his role in I Swear

His winning accolade comes in the form of the heartwarming biopic I Swear, which charts the life of pioneering Scottish Tourette syndrome campaigner John Davidson.

Aramyo plays Davidson, who developed the neurological condition at age 14, in Scotland in the late 80s. His diagnosis was made infinitely harder by the world's ignorance towards the condiiton, which left Davidson labelled a delinquent, rather than receibing the help he so desperately needed.

Tge fuim premiered at the Toronto International film festival in September, with Aramyo receiving rave reveiws for his equal parts hearbreaking and haertwarming performance (Variety called him "flawless", and Screen International declared him the next "major big-screen talent.")

The film will be eligible for the Oscars next year, so watch this space.

You might recognise him from Game Of Thrones

Aramyo's breakout role came in the form of the sixth and seventh seasons of the hit HBO series, i which he played the role of a young Eddard Stark. After that, he starred opposte Eve Hewson in the Netflix thriller Behind Her Eyes, and he's currently in the role of Elrond in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

He's originally from Yorkshire

Now 33, Aramayo grew up in Yorkshire, England. He began acting at age seven, landing the role of Bugsy Malone in a primary school production.

Later, he went on to attend Wye College in Hull, before landing a place at Julliard in New York City, and relocating in 2011.
