Getting a sense of Esmé Creed-Miles

While we’re all eagerly awaiting Jane Austen’s latest adaptation, Sense and Sensibility, ( which arrives in cinemas very soon), we’re just as intrigued by the creative minds bringing this beloved story to life. In particular, Esme Creed-Miles, who steps into the role of Marianne Dashwood.

If this is your first introduction to Creed-Miles, it likely won’t be long before you start seeing her everywhere. While Sense and Sensibility, arriving this October, marks one of her biggest projects yet, Creed-Miles has been working in the industry for some time – and surrounded by it for even longer. So, while you may already know everything there is to know about the iconic Dashwood sister she portrays, here’s what you need to know about the actor stepping into her shoes.

She will be portraying Marianne in Sense and Sensibility

That she is. Creed-Miles will be stepping into the adventurous shoes of the middle Dashwood sister. While a lot of us know the story that is over 200 years old from the one and only Jane Austen, we'll give you a little refresher. It follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood as they navigate love, heartbreak, money and social expectations, each approaching life with contrasting temperaments: Elinor with restraint and reason, Marianne with emotion and romantic idealism. Creed-Miles has already been announced as one of Variety's top 10 actors to watch this year, so we are kicking our feet in anticipation for her performance.

She has been surrounded by the acting world for her whole life

While she has been acting since the age of seven, she's been immersed in the creative world much longer. Both her parents – Samantha Morton and Charlie Creed-Miles – are incredibly well-known and talented actors. You might recognise Morton most recently for her role in The Odyssey as the sorceress Circe. Prior to Sense and Sensibility, Creed-Miles was notably in The Chronology of Water, Kirsten Stewart's 2025 directorial debut.

She's from London

Born in North London into a deeply creative family, Creed-Miles grew up immersed in the worlds of film and art. She spent part of her adolescence at the arts-focused Bedales School before studying film and photography at City & Guilds of London Art School, with early ambitions in music, photography and visual art. Acting emerged almost incidentally, with auditions eventually leading to her breakout role in Hanna, which lead her to leaving art school.

Fashion is a long love of hers

In an interview with Soho House she declared her love for fashion. "‘I’ve always loved fashion. Because I’ve had low self-esteem, finding clothes that make me feel better about myself has been a godsend." In 2020 she starred in Miu Miu's Pre-fall campaign, and today she counts Karla Welch as her stylist, already styling her in pieces from Thom Browne and Tom Ford for the Sense and Sensibility press tour.

She's also a musician

Creed-Miles is one half of Cusk, a British alt-rock duo with violinist and vocalist Evie Hilyer-Ziegler. They met at an improvised music night in 2023 and began developing songs that Creed-Miles had initially written as solo material. Creed-Miles contributes guitar, vocals and songwriting. She has also released music under her own name.

She's engaged
