On growing up...
Born Angèle Van Laeken in 1995, Angèle grew up in a creative household in Belgium. Her father, Marka, is a well-known Belgian singer, while her mother, Laurence Bibot, is a comedian and actress. With music and performance always around her, it’s no surprise that Angèle developed an interest in the arts from an early age.
She studied piano as a teenager and attended jazz school before eventually stepping into the spotlight herself. Before releasing official music, Angèle began sharing short, playful videos on social media where she sang original songs and covers. Her humour, relatability and catchy melodies quickly attracted attention online and helped build the audience that would later support her music career.

Her music...
Angèle’s music blends French pop, electronic influences and clever storytelling, often exploring themes like relationships, social media culture and self-expression. Her second album, Nonante-Cinq (2021), confirmed her staying power and showed a more personal side to her songwriting.
She writes and produces most of her own music, telling Rolling Stone back in 2023: "I’m still a bit clumsy sometimes and I want to keep it that way. I want to keep my clumsiness as a pop singer who also writes her own lyrics, produces her own songs. I really feel like we’re in a new era where musicians can be very independent. It’s important to show that we can build everything by ourselves."
