After months of buzz, festival hype, and cryptic fan theories, Michael B. Jordan’s Sinners is finally making its way to streaming. Yes, it's time to answer the door and let them in...
The modern gothic thriller lands on HBO Max next month – and if you missed it in theatres, now’s your chance to see what everyone’s been talking about.
Critics have hailed Sinners as one of the most inventive films of 2025. Premiering to standing ovations at Sundance and later stirring debate for its unflinching look at generational trauma, Sinners has been praised as a genre-defying triumph.
It’s also making headlines for its inclusive release: HBO Max will also stream Sinners as a special version with Black American Sign Language interpretation, a first for a major studio film.
When will it be released?
You can officially stream Sinners this week, as its set to premiere this Saturday, 5 July on HBO Max. Perfect for a winter's night in.
What's it about?
If you haven't already caught Sinners in the cinemas, let us set the scene for you: set in the haunting Mississippi Delta of 1932, Sinners follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore – both played masterfully by Jordan –as they return home to open a juke joint, only to awaken buried secrets and supernatural forces.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film is a bold fusion of Southern Gothic horror, historical drama, and musical storytelling, unraveling themes of sin, legacy, and Black resilience. The soundtrack alone is worth watching for (and when watching at home, at least you'll be able to get up out of your seat to dance along).
It's technically a horror, but if you (like me) aren't great with the scary movies, you'll be delighted to know it balances well and is probably more in the 'thriller' category, and without too much gore.
Who is in the cast?
Leading the film is Jordan, playing twin brothers, alongside Hailee Steinfeld as Mary, a scorned ex-lover. You’ll also see familiar faces like Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, and Delroy Lindo rounding out the ensemble.
Obsessed with Sinners? We've rounded up seven thrillers worth adding to your watch-list next.
