You've probably been living under a rock if you haven't become a super fan of Geese and Paul Thomas Anderson this last year. The former has been taking on everything from Saturday Night Live to Laneway Festival. The latter, now winner of a Best Picture Oscar for his film One Battle After Another.
Somehow, our worlds have collided in the most perfect way this week – with rumours swirling and now confirmed that PTA spent last December capturing Cameron Winter’s magical solo show at Carnegie Hall on 35mm film. The soon-to-be-released project, co-produced by Benny Safdie, is officially making its way to movie screens. But if you’re trying to catch it on Australian screens, here is the rundown on what we know so far.

When and where is the film hitting theatres?
The film is now set to have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on 1 October 2026, screening at Alice Tully Hall on 35mm with both Anderson and Winter in attendance. There will also be subsequent showings on Friday 2 October and Friday 9 October as part of the festival.
After that, Janus Films and Criterion will be rolling out the movie exclusively in U.S. theatres starting from 20 November 2026. But instead of a massive global drop, prints of the 35mm footage are going on a traveling roadshow across America through mid-January, hitting places like New York, LA, Chicago, Austin, and Portland.
For audiences outside North America, there’s now a clearer picture, too. The film will make its UK premiere as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival, which runs from 7–18 October 2026. Right now, there aren’t any confirmed Australian screening dates or venues. The distributors have only published the U.S. theatrical leg of the roadshow. Because Janus Films and Criterion are handling the distribution, local film lovers are holding out hope that it will eventually hit international arthouse theatres, local film festivals, or streaming services after the U.S. run wraps up.
Where to stream the film
MUBI has acquired the film for all territories outside North America and will release Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall on its streaming platform sometime in 2027, although an exact date has yet to be announced.

It’s a live concert film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, capturing Geese frontman Cameron Winter during a rare, intimate gig he held at Carnegie Hall last December. The film is shot on gorgeous 35mm film, and was co-produced by Benny Safdie along with Sara Murphy, Erica Frauman, and Maggie Ambrose. It's also paired with a brand-new live album, Live at Carnegie Hall, produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, which drops on 9 October 2026 while Winter continues touring with Geese through the fall.
